A rabbit in the moon

A rabbit in the moon

In many Native American mythologies, the Moon is female and a rabbit has made tracks across her body.  The Taino called the moon Karaya.  The Mayan name of the goddess is Ix Chel.

This drawing was done over 5 years ago and recently I decided paint it with watercolors.  Strangely enough, this year my granddaughter found a domesticated gray rabbit that she brought home with her.  One of her friends claimed it as a pet and now it’s name is “Marshmallow” since it is so soft and fluffy.  I gifted her friend a copy of this painting since maybe I called the rabbit into our lives!
