Abuelo y La Asturiana
Abuelo y La Asturiana
I have a huge collection of ideas that I never acted upon. Maybe just thoughts, or even doing some research to make them come to reality. This morning I thought of my maternal grandfather, Joaquin Ramos De Jesus. He was born around 1880-90 and lived to be over 90.
According to my uncle, he was selling water in Caguas, Puerto Rico, and would always have long conversations with the “elite” of the town. One of them was part owner of a bakery called La Asturiana founded in 1932, and he needed workers. My grandfather took this opportunity and was there for the rest of his working life. Abuelo also hired his son Fernando, his daughter Teresa, and many of my cousins over the years. We would always go to the bakery to get some of the best pastries and pan criollo in Puerto Rico. Sadly none of my family are working there now.
