Thoughts on pandemics
Thoughts on pandemics
It’s been over a year and half since the pandemic started.
My thoughts go to the natives of this hemisphere who suffered pandemic after pandemic with the arrival of the Europeans. They had no resistance to influenza, measles, chicken pox, and tuberculosis to name a few diseases that came with colonization. They did not have any experience dealing with these diseases and their remedies did not work. Then there was the destruction of ways of life. Their cultures and languages were debased and there was forced assimilation that has continued to the present day.
Our African brothers suffered as well. Many died during their horrific journeys to the Americas. Many died during their enslavement.
They died in the millions.
We are the survivors of the American holocaust.
Below are my pencil drawings of stone amulets carved by the indigenous people of the Caribbean.
